LaCl3 7H2O red or gray crystals or lumps. Melting point 70 DEG C. Soluble in water, easy to tide solution. Formation of hydroxide or chlorine oxide precipitate. Anhydrous salt is white powder crystal. Density 3.842. Melting point 860 DEG C, boiling point >1000 C. Easy to dissolve in soda water. Soluble in ethanol and pyridine, insoluble in ether and benzene. Lanthanum chloride, which is strongly hygroscopic, is easily decomposed to produce chlorine oxide in air.
